FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  1. HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO DRILL A WELL?
    The cost to dig a well in Northern Uganda is approx. $2500. The cost can vary depending on the depth of the well. Currently the breakdown to drill a well is 43%- Materials; 35% - Drilling Equipment; 12% - Surveying & 10% - Labour
  2. HOW MANY PEOPLE DOES A WELL SERVE?
    One well serves approximately 800-2000 people.  One well we installed is the only clean water available for 17,000 people. 
  3. WHERE DO YOU DRILL THE WELLS?
    We are currently drilling wells throughout Oyam district in Northern Uganda. 
  4. HOW DO YOU ENSURE THE WELL IS MAINTAINED?
    After the well is complete, we hand the responsibility of maintaining the well to the villagers. The villagers appoint a chairman, secretary and treasurer to manage the well. Small amounts of money are collected from the villagers where it is placed in a trust account to handle future maintenance of the well. The appointed board have regular meetings to address any concerns with the well. Representatives from Northern Uganda Development Foundation also check up on the wells to ensure they are being maintained.
  5. CAN I GET INVOLVED WITH NUDF? HOW?
    You sure can! There are several opportunities available for you to get involved assisting us with bringing clean drinking water to the villagers in Northern Uganda. You can donate your time through volunteering your services, participate in a mission trip, host an event to raise money for NUDF, raise awareness about Northern Uganda Development Foundation, or donate money.   6. CAN SOMEONE FROM NUDF TALK TO MY GROUP/SCHOOL/CHURCH, ETC.?
    We would be happy to speak to your group. Please feel free to contact us and we’ll arrange the details with you directly.
  7. IS IT SAFE IN NORTHERN UGNADA?
    After years of conflict, relative stability has returned to Northern Uganda. Some regions still experience conflict. People traveling to Northern Uganda are advised to secure travel accommodation and communication arrangements.
  8. CAN I GET A TAX DEDUCTION IF I DONATE? WHAT IS THE MINIMUM AMOUNT?
    Cheques for $20 or more will be receipted if made out to Northern Uganda Development Foundation and we have the person’s name, address and phone number. We do only one yearly mail out but can make other arrangements to accommodate your requests.
  9. WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO?
    You can make a request how you would like your donation spent. We currently have programs for wells, goats and beehives. You can sponsor a well for $2500. This money can be built up over time and once $2500 has been received you can sponsor the well and name it if you choose (see details below).  You can also request that the money go towards either goats or beehives, both cost $35 each.
  10. CAN I SPONSOR A WELL?
    Yes you can.  You can sponsor a well as an individual or group. Once you or your group have donated $2500 in total towards a well, we can name this well as you wish. Several people have opted to name the well in memory of someone they love. Once the well is complete, a plaque with the name of your choice will be placed at the well. We will send you a certificate and picture of the well & plaque.
